Welcome To The Bay State! These Sportsbooks Are Looking To Launch In Massachusetts

2022 has been an excellent year for the sports betting industry. New York, Ontario, and Louisiana all launched their sports betting markets, all of which have proved successful throughout the year. Meanwhile, states such as Ohio and Kansas have started planning on a rollout sooner rather than later, with the Buckeye State looking to launch on New Year’s Day 2023. And, thanks to a signature from Governor Charlie Baker, Massachusetts sports betting is now fully legal.

But, as is the case with any state, the actual launch process takes quite a few steps. Still, we’re at least aware of some of the sports betting operators looking to expand into Massachusetts. Here’s some of the confirmed online sportsbooks that have expressed interest in Massachusetts, as well as others that could still make a move into the Bay State.

12 Sports Betting Companies Looking To Enter Massachusetts

With Massachusetts legalizing sports betting, the state is expected to have 15 different mobile sportsbooks available. With the wheels in motion for a full-scale launch, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has asked any interested sports betting operators to send an email to confirm their future plans. As you’d expect, DraftKings Sportsbook, which grew from a popular daily fantasy sports platform, has confirmed interest in the Massachusetts betting market.

Same goes with other popular sports betting brands such as Bally Bet Sportsbook, WynnBET Sportsbook, 888, and PointsBet Sportsbook. Rounding out the list for online sportsbooks that have sent the confirmation email include the Jake Paul-founded Betr, Play Up, and Bet Fanatics.

However, a number of other wagering-focused companies are also looking at the state. Three different B2B companies have eyes on Massachusetts: Sportradar, GAN, and NYX Digital Gaming. In addition to the numerous digital-focused betting platforms, Raynham Park (a former racetrack in Raynham, MA) submitted an email to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

What Other Online Sportsbooks Could Make a Move?

While this is already a substantial list of sports betting companies, there are plenty more that are likely to submit an email before the August 31st deadline. Two of the most interesting omissions from the list were FanDuel Sportsbook and Caesars Sportsbook.

FanDuel Sportsbook, a former daily fantasy sports platform just like DraftKings, is one of the most popular sports betting apps in the U.S. Same goes for Caesars Sportsbook, which has been gaining plenty of fans thanks to its acquisition of William Hill in 2021.

The Penn National Gaming wagering app Barstool Sportsbook is also likely to express interest, which will be especially interesting after the recent full acquisition of the platform by Penn Entertainment.

BetRivers Sportsbook, a recognizable brand from Rush Street Interactive, is another likely option, especially considering its popularity on the East Coast. There are also plenty of wild cards that could throw their hats in the ring, such as Maxim Bet, FOX Bet, Betfred Sports, and Unibet Sportsbook.

When Will Massachusetts Sports Betting Be Available?

Currently, there is no launch date available for Massachusetss sports betting. However, there is hope that sports wagering could be available by the end of the year. Whether this includes mobile sports betting, retail sports betting, or both remains to be seen.

It seems increasingly likely that retail sportsbooks will become available before online sportsbooks. With a September 8th meeting planned with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, sports fans in the area are hoping for the ability to wager on the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and Boston Bruins as soon as possible.
