Odell Beckham Jr. Super Bowl 56 MVP Odds

Super Bowl LVI is only a few days away, and the debate of Super Bowl MVP contenders continues to heat up. Both teams are equipped with weapons that have the strengths to take home the title, but only one may win. In the history of the National Football League, over 26,000 men have been lucky enough to play, but only 47 of those men have walked away with a Super Bowl MVP title. It is one of the most prestigious titles in the league, and players on the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals are the final contenders.

The MVP will be chosen at the conclusion of the Super Bowl and will be selected by a panel of 16 NFL news journalists and broadcasters, as well as a mobile fan vote. The panel will contribute to 80% of the decision, while the mobile votes will make up 20%.

Odell Beckham Jr Super Bowl 56 MVP Odds

This year, Odell Backham Jr has had quite a headline season after his transformation from the Cleveland Browns to the Los Angeles Rams. In the regular season, Beckham Jr acquired only 537 receiving yards on both teams. There is much controversy on how/why Beckham left the Browns, but he has proven himself a good receiver in the Ram’s postseason. Beckham racked in 236 receiving yards in his three playoff games, including 113 yards in the most recent win against the San Francisco 49ers. He is the second-leading receiver for the Rams in the postseason, following Cooper Kupp. Kupp has been the standout receiver not only for the Rams but in the league. He is the most targeted player in the NFL and has the most receiving yards, totaling over 2,333 yards in regular and postseason games combined.

Kupp has the third-best odds to win the Super Bowl MVP with +600 odds. Beckham Jr falls slightly behind with the sixth-best odds of +2800 on DraftKings. It’s hard to deny the skill of Odell, but his consistency is not as strong as Cooper Kupp. He also hasn’t been with the Los Angeles organization as long as Kupp, so the connection with him and quarterback Matthew Stafford isn’t as strong. In this Super Bowl matchup, it’s suspected that Stafford will be trusting Kupp with the ball significantly more than any other receiver on the team, which could leave Beckham at a disadvantage. It’s very hard to differentiate yourself as the most influential player when you’re in second place on your own team. However, Beckham might have time to shine if he is placed as the team’s punt or kickoff returner. In 1997, Desmond Howard won the XXXI Super Bowl MVP trophy after 90 yards on punt returns and 157 yards on kickoffs. Beckham is the third up for the special teams position, but I see this being the best chance for Beckham to stand out against Cooper Kupp.

Odell is a very controversial player. He has some consistency issues as well as a temper that can work in favor or against his team. Due to his new place on the team and the incredible talent of Cooper Kupp, I don’t see OBJ taking home the title of MVP this year. I’m sure he will be an electric player on the field, but he falls just short in stats and reliability for me to feel confident in placing my bet in his hands. This year, I would suggest trusting Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow, or Cooper Kupp for your Super Bowl MVP contender.
