San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys Player Props (1/16/22)
The 49ers vs. Cowboys game is the Wild Card matchup I’m most looking forward to as both teams have some incredible playmakers on both sides of the ball, which should make this an exciting contest to watch. You can check out our betting guides and matchup previews for help with analyzing the spread, and over/under, and in this article, I’ll discuss some of the best player prop values. Dak Prescott Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns
You’re going to have to accept some huge juice on this prop, but the fact that this line is even available is surprising to me. Prescott is averaging four passing touchdowns per game over his last three games and has gone over this line in 11 of his 16 games this season. The 49ers have masked some of their deficiencies in the secondary with an elite pass-rush, but the Cowboys arguably have the best offensive line in the league, so Prescott should have enough time to sit in and throw against the 16th-ranked defense in pass DVOA. The Niners have only allowed 25 passing touchdowns all year, but Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow, Russell Wilson, and Kirk Cousins have thrown multiple touchdowns against them over the second half of the season.
Dalton Schultz Over 3.5 Receptions and 41.5 Receiving Yards
Schultz followed up a breakout season last year with even better production this season, and he’s averaging 4.6 catches for 47.5 yards this season. The 49ers have only allowed 206.5 passing yards per game, the sixth-fewest in the NFL. Still, they just allowed Tyler Higbee to finish with six catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns in the final week of the season, and C.J. Uzomah finished with 56 receiving yards against them a few weeks ago. While the Cowboys’ offensive line is uniquely built to slow down the Niners’ pass rush, Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead will inevitably break through a few teams. Expect Dak Prescott to look for Schultz as his preferred check-down safety valve when they do.
Elijah Mitchell Over 19.5 Rushing Attempts and 79.5 Rushing Yards
The 49ers will be looking to do everything in their power to make life easier for Jimmy Garoppolo against the defense that led the NFL in takeaways. That effort starts with a heavy dose of Elijah Mitchell on the ground. Mitchell may still be dealing with the knee issue, but he picked up 21 carries for 85 yards last week and has been fully cleared for this game. The Cowboys rank second in the NFL in pass defense DVOA and just 16th in run defense DVOA, so this profiles as a favorable matchup for the run game for San Francisco. Not that Kyle Shanahan needs an invitation to run the ball, as the Niners have called run plays at the fourth-highest rate this season. Mitchell has 20+ rushing attempts in his last five fully healthy games and 80+ rushing yards in seven of eleven games this year.
Deebo Samuel Anytime TD Scorer
I’m pretty sure I’ve included the Deebo Samuel touchdown prop every time I’ve written up a player props article for the 49ers this season, and we’ll go back to the well here. Samuel has scored in 11 of his 16 games this year, a 69% hit rate, and has multiple touchdowns in three of those games. Overall, the Dallas defense is solid, but Samuel is a different breed, and his elite season should continue this week. As long as Samuel is healthy and the sportsbooks offer close to even odds on him to score a touchdown, you’d be silly not to keep going back to him. Take a look at Samuel 2+ touchdowns or first TD scorer for some extra juice.
