DraftKings Emails Users on California Sports Betting Prop 27
With more than half of the country allowing for sports betting in one way or another, all eyes are on the massive state of California to make the next move. With propositions in place to legalize sports wagering in the Golden State, some of the top sports betting operators are investing heavily in legalization. Here’s what you need to know about how DraftKings Sportsbook is supporting the California sports betting proposition.
DraftKings Spotlighting Prop 27 To Users
With the NFL season kicking off on Thursday, top sports betting platform DraftKings has recently sent out an email to California users of its daily fantasy sports platform with information on Prop 27. The message details how, with the pro football season starting, California still prohibits mobile sports betting. The email also gives details on Prop 27, which would legalize online sports wagering in the state of California.
While the message itself doesn’t urge voters to make a definitive decision, the “Yes” in “Yes on Proposition 27” is presented in bold. The email gives further details on the California proposition as well as a voter registration confirmation link.
A Closer Look at Prop 27 and Prop 26
With the upcoming election this November, Californians have two separate sports betting propositions to vote on: Prop 27 and Prop 26. Prop 27 focuses on launching mobile sports betting in the state, which would allow anyone of legal betting age to place bets with platforms such as DraftKings Sportsbook from their smart devices.
In addition to DraftKings, other top mobile sportsbooks such as FanDuel Sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook, Barstool Sportsbook, and BetMGM Sportsbook would likely expand into the state if Prop 27 passes. Tax revenue from Prop 27 would benefit the homeless population in California and increase resources for mental health services.
Prop 26, another wagering-focused initiative on the ballot, instead focuses on in-person betting at tribal casinos through retail sportsbooks. An increasing number of advertisements have begun to release surrounding the propositions, with a “Yes on 27” ad focusing on the tax revenue benefits from legal online betting and a “No on Prop 27” advert showcasing how over 50 tribes are in opposition.

DraftKings Sportsbook & Other Betting Operators Support Prop 27
DraftKings Sportsbook is one of many top sports betting operators that have supported Prop 27. A few of the other big names backing the prop include BetMGM, Penn Interactive Ventures, and FanDuel. Additionally, Major League Baseball recently voiced support of the betting initiative.
This makes sense, as the league has struck partnerships with DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook, among others. With a few months until the election, don’t be surprised if DraftKings and other top betting companies continue highlighting Prop 27.
