NFL MVP Odds 2022: Mahomes, Allen, Rodgers The Early Frontrunners
The NFL MVP award is one of the most fun awards to bet on in the league every year, and we already have odds for the 2022-23 season. It’s no surprise that NFL MVP odds typically mirror the odds for the Super Bowl – the most likely teams to win a championship often have a player that would be considered for the MVP award. Of course, the MVP winner needs to have incredible individual stats and not just be playing on a great team.
In the 2021-22 season, Aaron Rodgers won the MVP award for the second-straight year. Rodgers became the first player since Peyton Manning in 2008 and 2009 to win back-to-back MVPs and just the fifth player of all time to win two years in a row. Only one player – Brett Favre – has ever won in three straight years. Can Rodgers repeat that incredible feat?

Patrick Mahomes (): While Mahomes had a bit of a down season, he was excellent for five halves in the playoffs before falling apart in the second half against the Bengals in the AFC Championship. Kansas City will likely be in the market for another pass-catcher, and if Mahomes can regain some of his elite form, he could win the MVP for the second time after doing so in 2018 in his first year as a starter.
Josh Allen (): Many believe the Bills are the best team in the NFL and should be considered Super Bowl favorites, and the odds would reflect that stance as they are neck-and-neck with the Chiefs. Allen is neck-and-neck with Mahomes in odds to win his first MVP award. His elite passing and rushing production will make him a top candidate for the award this season.
Aaron Rodgers (): It’s hard to imagine Rodgers not playing at an MVP level for a third straight season in 2022, but will he be back on the field? Retirement has been floated as a possibility for Rodgers, as has the potential for him to be playing on a different team than the Packers next season. Wait until we have more confirmation on his status for next season before placing money on him to win MVP, as the odds won’t likely shift drastically before the start of the season.
The Mid-Range Tier
Joe Burrow (): In Burrow’s first full year as a starter in the NFL, he took the Bengals to the Super Bowl. Can he follow that up with an MVP? He certainly has the pass-catching talent at his disposal with Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd. If Cincinnati upgrades its offensive line significantly, Burrow should be in for a massive statistical season this year.
Justin Herbert (): Things didn’t quite go according to plan for the Chargers as they narrowly missed the playoffs last year, but Herbert made the Pro Bowl as he threw for 5,014 yards and 38 touchdowns. If the Chargers make an upset bid to win the AFC West and Herbert puts up similar numbers, he could find himself firmly in the MVP conversation. Keep an eye on Mike Williams, as he would be a significant free agency loss should he leave the team.
Dak Prescott (): While Prescott put together great numbers last year and had a career-high 6.2% touchdown rate, he wasn’t quite in the MVP conversation. The Cowboys have an elite offensive line and plenty of pass-catching talent. Still, if anything, the touchdown rate likely regresses a bit, and I don’t see him ascending into the MVP conversation next season.
Matthew Stafford (): In his first year in Sean McVay’s offense, Stafford threw for 4,886 yards and 41 touchdowns, but he tied for the league lead with 17 interceptions. If he can keep those interceptions in check next season, he’ll be in the MVP race on one of the best teams in football. Don’t forget; he’ll get Robert Woods back healthy next year, along with his incredible connection with Cooper Kupp.
NFL MVP Longshots
Russell Wilson (): Wilson is one of many veteran quarterbacks who could be on the move this offseason, and he could have a rejuvenated season in a new landing spot. If he wins the division or even the #1 seed in the conference in his first year with Pittsburgh, Washington, or Denver, he’d be an interesting name to watch for MVP.
Deshaun Watson (): Like Wilson, Watson is a high-level passer who could be on the move this offseason. There are still some unknowns surrounding the legal aspects of his status, but Watson made the Pro Bowl in three straight seasons on a fairly terrible Houston roster. He could have a massive season in a new landing spot with a fresh start.
Derek Carr (): Depending on how you feel about the Josh McDaniels hire, Carr could have a very productive season. The presence of Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow helps a ton, while the Raiders will certainly look to add another receiver in free agency or the draft. Carr has quietly played among the best ball of any quarterback in recent years, and he finished third in MVP voting in 2016.
Trevor Lawrence (): Can Lawrence really jump from an atrocious rookie season into the MVP conversation? Crazier things have happened, and the Jaguars have surrounded Lawrence with some excellent coaching in Doug Pederson, Press Taylor, Jim Bob Cooter, and Mike McCoy. More receiving and blocking help is needed, but Lawrence has the talent to make a seismic Year Two leap in this new system.
